Begin beneath the top layer.
Flat and fitted sheets do different jobs. Choose a fitted base around your mattress, then add the overhang and fold you prefer with a separate flat sheet.
Pair a pale top layer with a deeper base, or stay close in tone for a simple, coherent arrangement.
A smaller statement
The detail you see first.
A border, a narrow stripe or a quiet solid shade can change the head of the bed. Keep the surrounding layers simple and let the pillowcase provide the point of focus.
The upper layer
Give the room its own rhythm.
A duvet cover occupies the largest visual area of a made bed. Use a plain tone when smaller details deserve attention, or choose a fine stripe to set the direction.
